Omega Juicer

Often I would come across a lot of articles on the internet that talks a lot about the benefits of juicing. Not just juicing fruits but also vegetables as well.

My impression of a juicer has always revolved around different types of “centrifugal” juicers, the most famous being the Power Juicers by Jack LaLanne since I see it advertised all the time on those shopping channels.

I’ve always been quite impressed with the Power Juicer until I came across this particular type of juicer. It is known as  a masticating juicer. The masticating juicer basically “chews” and “mash” the vegetables or fruits to produce the juice leaving a much dryer pulp. The motor itself runs slowly say about 80 rpm instead of the regular juicer that spins so fast you think it’s gonna fly away.

Probably it’s hard to imagine what it’s like so just watch the videos below.

The video below shows this product known as the Omega Nutrition Center 8003.

The following video shows a newer juicer from Omega as well known as the Omega Vert VRT 330.

Both are great juicers in my opinion but rather expensive. So far I don’t think you can find them around here so the only way to get them is to have them shipped from US.

Check out more videos on what these juicers can do. It’s quite interesting. Besides that do also check out articles on juicing and raw foods diet. It’s also very interesting.

Am I going to buy it? I dunno… we’ll see.

New Glass

Finally got my new glass. The AF-S DX VR Zoom-Nikkor 18-200mm f/3.5~5.6G IF-ED. Phew, that was a mouthful.

Anyway, it’s a new zoom lens for my camera. Ordered it from an online store in US and got my sister’s friend Kay to bring it in. Thanks A LOT Kay for the help. Saved a bit on shipping it over.

The main reason I got this lens was the focal range and vibration reduction. Layman terms, 11x zoom and anti shake. So should be a very useful travel lens. My old lens could only do about 4x zoom. Of course the new lens is bigger and heavier.

Anyway, think I’m gonna love this lens and I will post some pics when I got time to take some decent pics with it.

Compiz Fusion

For those of you who don’t know, I dabble a bit with the Linux operating system and my personal laptop at home has a dual boot setup with WinXP and Ubuntu Feisty since many months back.

Think desktop linux is non user friendly and unresponsive? Check this out.

What you see in the video is Linux with the Compiz Fusion effects installed. I seriously think it puts Vista Aero to shame. I just love eye candy.

The art of creating creatures

My colleague Roslyn sent me a video link this morning. It’s seriously cool and ingenious stuff.

Dutch artist Theo Jansen demonstrates his amazingly lifelike kinetic sculptures, built from plastic tubes and lemonade bottles. His “Strandbeests” (Beach Creatures) are built to move and even survive on their own.

Please click here to view the video. You’d be amazed.
